Hosting.com Adds Additional Messaging Security with Introduction of New Anti-Spam Features
Spamhaus email protection services and Sender Policy Framework (SDF) enhance Hosting.com's fraud protection offerings.
June 20, 2005 - (Louisville, KY) Hosting.com, the first name in hosting, announced today that it has implemented enhanced protection and security features for the managed hosting options of its customer's email and web-based assets. By implementing Spamhaus email protection services and Sender Policy Framework (SPF ) email authentication protocol,Hosting.com can better secure, support, serve and protect its dedicated servers and co-located servers on a 24/7 basis. Security features already being provided by Hosting.com include Intellimail, a virus scanning and spam filtering solution that prevents unwanted, dangerous and offensive email from being delivered to customer's inboxes. This junk email is detected by Hosting.com and sent to its customer's personal, web-based, password-protected Message Center where they can review and choose to delete or keep any quarantined email. Intellimail is optional for all Hosting.com customers.
Hosting.com has recently implemented technology from Spamhaus, the international non-profit organization whose mission it is to track the Internet's Spam Gangs. Spamhaus offers real-time anti-spam protection for Internet networks and Domain Name System (DNS) based blocking lists, enabling spam to be rejected early in email transactions, before it burdens servers, disks and mail queues.
According to Spamhaus, spam email accounts for over 75% of all email traffic arriving at most ISP mail servers. Additionally over 80% of spam received by Internet users is sent by a group of 200 spam outfits. Thus, the Spamhaus Block List (SBL) has been developed by Spamhaus and implemented by managed hosting company, Hosting.com , to immediately preempt fraudulent email being sent from users on the SBL.
Sender Policy Framework (SPF) has also recently been incorporated into Hosting.com'semail authentication protocol and is used to validate sender's domains, protecting against unauthorized email. SPF verifies that all email messages originate from the domain from which they claim to be sent. This service is provided before the email message is transmitted to the customer - at the "handshake." Thus, Hosting.com is able to effectively block email from unvalidated Internet domains.
