Why does the browse server feature fail in the ColdFusion Administrator?
When configuring certain settings in the ColdFusion Administrator, you are given the option to browse the server for the directory path and/or file. Examples of this include configuring a Mapping or a Data Source Name.
Clicking the Browse Server option will attempt to load a java applet, which will fail. The reason this fails is because the java applet relies on a Remote Development Service (RDS) connection to your server.
RDS through ColdFusion has been disabled on all of our ColdFusion VPS Servers. This is an unnecessary security risk that we have eliminated. Further details concerning ColdFusion RDS on production servers can be found on Adobe's website.
