Back up my mailbox in Outlook

This guide discusses how to backup your mail folders in Microsoft Outlook; it is based on exchange but will work for pop3 or IMAP as well.

  1. Click File, Important and Export…

  2. Click Export to a file, then Next

  3. Choose Personal Folder File (.pst), then Next

  4. Select the folder to be exported. You can check Include subfolders to export everything inside a folder.
    • Mailbox - <username> can be used to export an entire exchange mailbox.

  5. Click Browse to choose where to export the file to

  6. Browse to a folder on your computer, and enter a name in the File name: box

  7. Click OK, then Finish
  8. Enter a Name: for the backup, that will appear in your folder list
  9. In most cases, you will not need a password

  10. Click OK
  11. The new backup file should appear in your folder list.
