Obtaining the Forwarding Address for your Exchange User

This article goes over how to obtain the forwarding address of your Exchange user. This applies to our Hosted Exchange & Sharepoint Exchange users only. If you have a split domain setup (mail goes to Exchange users on our shared Exchange solution and another mail server) then you need a way to send e-mail back to users on our Shared Exchange system from a non-Exchange user.

For example, lets say bob@mydomain.com is an Exchange user, and sue@hosting.com is not. Sue tries to e-mail bob, but her mail server does not perform an MX lookup because bob is on the same domain. It sees bob doesn't exist on the mail server Sue is on. To get around this, you can setup bob@hosting.com on Sue's mail server, and have bob@hosting.com forward all mail to the unique Exchange forwarding address. The instructions below go over how to obtain this unique Exchange forwarding address.

  1. Login to the Hosted Exchange & Sharepoint portal
  2. Click the MANAGE link next to the domain the user belongs to
  3. You should see a USER LIST at this point. Underneath each e-mail address is a Forwarding Address. This is the forwarding address you will need. For example, you may see something like:
    • testUser%testDomain.com@gateway.myexchangeemail.com
