Set Up Mac Mail for HMC Using IMAP
This article goes over setting up Hosted Messaging and Exchange with Mac Mail using IMAP. To get the full experience and features of Exchange, please see Set Up Mac Mail for HMC Exchange.
- Open Mail by going to Macintosh HD > Applications > Mail.
- Select the File menu > Add Account.
- Enter in your display name, full e-mail address, and password. Click Continue.
- From the Account Type drop down menu, select Exchange. Enter in the information as follows:
- Description: HMC
- Incoming Mail Server: imap.myexchangeemail.com
- User Name: the email address used to log into the webmail interface (i.e. username@domain.com)
- Password: the password for the email address
- Outlook Web Access Server: webmail.myexchangeemail.com
- Click Continue.
- A certificate warning may appear that states "Mail cannot verify the identity of imap.myexchangeemail.com". See the note at the bottom of this page to avoid the warning dialog.
- Click Connect.
- For the Outgoing Mail Server screen, enter in the information as follows:
- Description: HMC
- Outgoing Mail Server: imap.myexchangeemail.com
- Check the Use only this server box.
- Check the Use Authentication box.
- User Name: the email address used to log into the webmail interface (i.e. username@domain.com)
- Password: the password for the email address
- Click Continue. It may take a while for the server to verify your identity. After successful verification, click Create on the next screen and the account will be taken online.
- When checking mail for the first time you may seen the security warning stating "Mail cannot verify the identity of imap.myexchangeemail.com". To dismiss this warning permanently, go to the Mail menu > Preferences > HMC account.
- Under the Account Information tab you will see a Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop down. From this drop down, select Edit Server List.
- Select the HMC account and click the Advanced tab and uncheck Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). Click OK.
- Next, go to the Advanced tab under the main account. Uncheck Use SSL next to Port 993. This changes the port to 143.
- Close out of the window and Mail will ask if you want to save your preferences. Click Save. You will no longer get the security warning when checking mail with HMC.
