HostMySite Shared Account Setup FAQ
This article goes over some of the more common questions for a new shared account setup that you may have. If you have any questions that are not addressed here, please feel free to contact us.
Question: After ordering, how long does it take for my site to setup?
Answer: A site setup depends on many factors. Each account goes through a fraud check before proceeding. If your order passes the fraud check, you can expect the site to be setup within 3 hours although it is usually much less time. If after 3 hours the site is not setup, please contact us.
Question: How can I access my site if my domain does not point to your servers yet?
Answer: We provide every shared account with a temporary URL to access the site which is included in the setup email. Accessing the site via IP address will not work as we need to be responsibile with our IP usage now that IPv4 space has run out. Thus, each account comes with a shared IP address which shared with other customers. If you have an SSL, a dedicated IP address will be provided once the SSL is installed.
Question: What are your nameserver records?
Answer: ns1.lnhi.net, ns2.lnhi.net, and ns3.lnhi.net. If adding an additional domain pointer to the main website for your account, be sure to contact support so the DNS zone and host header/server aliases can be added.
Question: How do I connect to my site to upload files?
Answer: FTP. More information on FTP and how to do so can be found in our FTP Support Articles category.
Question: How do I setup email users and use a third party program to access email?
Answer: Email users can be added via the customer control panel following this article or they can be added manually. For accessing your email once DNS points to us, please see Configuring Third Party Email Clients.
Question: Do I need to transfer my domain to HostMySite for the domain to work?
Answer: No. Your domain can stay with the current registrar and DNS can be updated there. However, if you pay for a yearly account with us, you get a free domain included in the price. If you do wish to transfer the domain to us, please see transferring a domain.
Question: How do I update my account information, add additional FTP users, etc, without contacting Support?
Answer: Our Customer Control Panel provides many of the functions you need to do on a daily basis without contacting support. For more information on what the Customer Control Panel can do, please see our Customer Control Panel Support Articles.
Question: How do I contact HostMySite if I need to?
Answer: We are available via phone, chat, and email 24 hours a day, 7 days as week, 365 days a year.
