How do I add a product?

The following article explains how to add a product to a MIVA Merchant store. Products are first created and then assigned to specific categories and a product may be assigned to more than one category. It is not necessary to assign a product to a category. Products not assigned to a category will be visible if a customer uses the Product List feature in the storefront.

To add a product, please follow these steps:

1. Log into the MIVA Merchant Admin section located at http://store.domainname.com/merchant2/admin.mvc. If this address does not work, you may need to use http://domainname.com/merchant2/admin.mvc. Older MIVA Merchant stores were configured with this address.
2. Expand the Stores menu.
3. Expand the Store name.
4. Click Add next to Products from the menu.
5. Enter the appropriate information:
   • Product Code: enter a code for the product, upto 50 characters including letters, numbers, dashes and underscores
   • Product Name: enter a name for the product, upto 100 characters including letters, numbers, spaces and symbols
   • Category Code: enter the category code for the product (optional)
   • Look Up: press to search for the category code
   • Price: enter the amount you wish to charge customers for the product
   • Cost: enter the actual amount of the product
   • Weight: enter the weight of the product to be used for shipping purposes
   • Description: enter a description of the product as either plain text or using HTML code
   • Taxable: check this box if the product is subject to tax
   • Active: uncheck this to make the category inactive, removing it from the category tree
6. Click Add to create a single category, click Add + to add this category and begin adding a second category.

When creating a product you have the following additional options (each is optional):

• Images: enter a thumbnail image and fill-sized image
• Header & Footer: enter a header and/or footer to be used for the product (HTML code may be used)

To remove a product, please follow these steps:

1. Log into the MIVA Merchant Admin section located at http://store.domainname.com/merchant2/admin.mvc. If this address does not work, you may need to use http://domainname.com/merchant2/admin.mvc. Older MIVA Merchant stores were configured with this address.
2. Expand the Stores menu.
3. Expand the Store name.
4. Click Products from the menu.
5. Check the product you wish to remove.
6. Click Update.
