Password Protect a Directory in Plesk 10

This is done in the same way as doing this via comand line with .htpasswd following Password Protect a Directory in Linux.  Plesk provides a graphical user interface for doing so.

  1. Log into the Plesk administrative interface by navigating to https://<ip_address>:8443 as the server administrator.  A self-signed certificate may show an error in the browser in which case it is OK to accept the self-signed SSL.
  2. Navigate to Domains in the left hand navigation menu and click Control Panel next to the domain.
  3. Plesk Domains Domain List
  4. This will open the control panel for that domain.  Under this new tab/window, click Websites & Domains.
  5. Websites and Domains
  6. Click Show Advanced Operations, Password-Protected Directories.
  7. Password Protection Plesk
  8. Next, click Add Protected Directory.   Enter in the directory name, location and title of the protected directory and click OK

  10. Once the directory has been added, click the directory.  This will allow you to setup a user and password to access the directory.

  12. Click Add New User and enter in the username, secure password, confirm the password, and click OK.  The directory is now secured and when browsed to in a browser, a password prompt will appear and will only allow those users with access to view the contents of the directory.
