Schedule and Run backups in Plesk 9

This article will go over setting up your Linux Plesk server to backup remotely or locally and how to schedule backups. Prior to proceeding, make sure you have enough space on the server the backup is going to otherwise the backup will fail.

  1. Log into your Plesk control panel at https://<server_ip_address>:8443
  2. Navigate to Home > Server > Backup Manager.

  3. If backing up to your FTP repository and you have already entered in the FTP details, you can go to Backup Manager and click the Back Up icon and choose the radio button for Personal FTP repository or Server Repository to back up the server (depending on which you choose is where the backups will reside).

  4. Otherwise, to schedule a backup, go to Backup Manager and then click Scheduled Backup Settings. Enter in the information as to when the backup should occur, how often and if you want to prefix the backup name and click OK. Make sure you uncheck the box for Suspend Domains until Backup Task is Completed otherwise the server will take the domains offline. This is quicker and allows more resources when checked to complete the task whereas leaving this box checked and the domains online may take longer.
