How do I create a domain key for my domain using SmarterMail?

The following article explains how to create a domain key for your domain using SmarterMail. A domain key is an email authentication method used to identify your mail server to the receiving server. This is method the recipient mail server can use to verify the integrity of the message.

Note: After creating the domain key in SmarterMail, you will need to send this information to technical support so they can update your domain name.

To create a domain key, please follow these steps:

  1. Open a browser window and go to one of the following URLs:
    • http://mail#.safesecureweb.com (this address is provided in the setup email)
  2. Login as root@domainname.com with the password supplied in your setup email.
  3. From the top menu bar, click Settings.
  4. From the left side bar, expand Domain Settings.
  5. Expand Advanced Settings and click Domain Keys.
  6. Check Enable DomainKey Signing.
  7. On the Certificate tab, enter the following:
    • Selector: enter any name you wish, though we recommend using your domain name without the extension
    • Key Size: select a key size (the larger the number, the stronger it is)
  8. Click Generate Key.
  9. Email the TXT Record Name and TXT Record Value to technical support and request to have a domain key created for your domain.
