Enabling Logging in SmarterMail 

This article will guide you through enabling logging in SmarterMail in order to track down mail delivery issues as well as blacklists and abuse related items.

  1. Log into SmarterMail admin typically located at http://<server_ip_adddress>:9998
  2. Navigate to the Settings icon at the top of the screen

  3. Click Log Settings on the left navigation bar

  4. Under the Log Files tab set Delete Log Files After to 5 days or shorter/longer depending on how long you want to keep logs and Check the Enabled box

  5. Click the Log Detail Levels tab; the recommend settings are below:

  6. Most importantly you will want to have Detailed logging enabled for Delivery Log Level and SMTP Log Level
  7. Click Save at the top of the screen
  8. To check the logs once logging is enabled, navigate to C:\SmarterMail\Logs\ or the correct location as was set in Step 4. The log file formats are as follow: yyyy.mm.dd-logfilename.log.
  9. Alternatively you can go to Manage > View Logs and select the log you wish to view. This will only return 1MB worth of data. Should you need more than that, you will need to log into the server and view the logs manually
