Create and Upload a Webpage with iWeb for Mac OS X
Some customers choose to create webpages in iWeb (part of the iLife suite for Mac OS X that allows designing of webpages based on pre-defined templates). As long as there is FTP access to the site, iWeb can be used to create and upload the site to Hosting.com servers.
First, you must have iWeb installed. iWeb is part of the iLife suite available from Apple. ![]()
Once the application is installed, navigate to the Desktop and click the Macintosh HD icon (or whatever your computer is named). Then click Applications and within this folder is iWeb.
Choosing a Template
Upon starting the application by double-clicking it, you will be asked if you have a .me account. This is not necessary to use iWeb so the dialog box can be dismissed. Upon closing that dialog box, the Choose a Template box will appear as shown below.
Choose a template of your liking by clicking it and hitting the Choose button as shown above. The resulting screen will show an already designed template. For example if you were to choose About Me as the template, the following would show:
Customizing the Template
iWeb is a What-You-See-is-What-You-Get editor (WYSIWYG). Highlight the area of text you want to change and starting typing in your own text in that area. The same can be said for images. Control-click (right-click) the image to be changed and in the contextual menu choose Insert and select a picture, then click Choose. The chosen picture will replace the pre-defined template picture.
To change the text size, font, color, etc. hit the Inspector button as shown in the above image on the bottom toolbar. This will bring up a panel that contains other options to personalize the website.
Once you are ready to save, go to the File menu and click Save. Finally, once you are ready to publish the site to the Hosting.com servers, navigate once again to the File menu and select Publish to Folder. The save dialog box will appear asking for FTP credentials. It should be of the form http://www.domain.com and where to save the files to (such as htdocs/). This folder should be uploaded via some FTP software available for Mac OS X such as Transmit, Cyberduck, or Fetch. Alternatively, you can publish directly from iWeb following How to FTP within iWeb.
